The Business Challenge

Billing claims are routinely rejected due to incorrect billing information resulting in delays or loss of revenue. The traditional method of capturing patient information consisted of personnel photocopying front and back of insurance cards, driver's licenses, and/or any other associated documents. EMC requires the capture of patient identification information at the point of registration. This provides for patient security, better management of its' verification processes, reduction of errors, and provides exact patient billing information accuracy. A secure and efficient solution was required.

The Data Connect Corporation Solution

The chosen solution was Data Connect's Med ID Scan. Med ID Scan was integrated with the existing Eisenhower Medical Center patient registration system and their imaging system by Data Connect's Professional Services team. Upon patient registration, using a mini desktop card scanner, the insurance card and any additional identification cards are scanned into Med ID Scan.

The patient registration information including the medical record number, account number, patient name, and date of service are automatically captured and indexed making the insurance card information instantly available within the imaging system.

The EMC staff searches on the index data, allowing for easy retrieval of the scanned images for each patient encounter.
