I love working at Data Connect. I've been here for over two years and I get to do all the things computer geeks love to do - database work, programming, network administration...you name it, I get to do it. A lot of companies try to pigeonhole employees into a certain role, but Data Connect isn't like that. Techies (and everyone else) are given the autonomy to discover new and better ways of doing things, and that leads to great products and higher customer satisfaction. It's super-cool to put your heart into something that ends up helping out our customers.
When I'm not programming, I'm usually playing chess or hanging out with my family. My seven-year-old daughter has started playing, which thrills me to no end. She still says “horsey” instead of “knight” but hey, at least she’s playing. I lead the chess club at her school. It’s a pretty rowdy scene, and I have a newfound respect for teachers.
My son is one year old and is a real handful. When he isn’t climbing onto the kitchen table, he’s climbing into the dishwasher, both of which give my wife heart attacks. He, of course, thinks her reaction is hilarious.
We moved from South Carolina to Colorado in 1994, and we used to hike and camp almost every weekend. As soon as my son gets past the age of putting everything he finds in his mouth, we’ll get back on the trail.
Before the kids got here, I used to go to the symphony (my favorites are Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Brahms), the theater (anything but Shakespeare), and tons of movies (mostly indie films). Now, I pretty much just want to go to bed.
